Korean Grand Prix Preview And Prediction

Sebastian Vettel may not have had everything go his way in the 2012 Formula 1 season, but right now, he is the man to beat once again.

korean grand prix imageAfter back to back Grand Prix wins, the German is now just four points behind Fernando Alonso and the new favourite to become the 2012 World Champion. This would be a hat-trick of driver championship wins for the Red Bull man too.

It is the Korean Grand Prix that Vettel will be taking on this weekend, a race which he won last year. All in all, with his form, momentum and previous success on this circuit, it is hard to look past the German for yet another victory as his reputation grows and grows.

As ever though, there are other contenders and plenty of them. Taking nothing away from the excitement of this race, but is the usual suspects.

Despite his hit and miss season, Lewis Hamilton is always in the mix as he is just as likely to storm to a stunning victory as he is crash out on the first corner. For this reason, the bookies need to play it safe and the soon to be Mercedes man is the second favourite.

You then have Fernando Alonso who needs a big weekend. He was leading the way quite considerably a few weeks ago, but Ferrari are struggling with their car and the Spaniard – after only two podium finishes in the last five races – is slowly losing the belief that he can win the title.

Jenson Button is available at similar odds to Alonso as he looks for a race win to give McLaren some non Hamilton leaving headlines. He will be the No.1 driver next year for them and although the Championship is gone this year – he is 63 points behind Alonso – every race is important.

Mark Webber is the only other driver under 10/1 and having played second fiddle to Vettel once again – especially over the last few weeks – he would love a podium finish at the very least. The Australian has been hanging out with Usain Bolt this week, so perhaps that will give him some inspiration!

The likes of Kimi Raikkonen, Romain Grosjean, Sergio Perez, Felipe Massa and Kamui Kobayashi are then, as ever, in the hunt for a podium finish. This is something Massa and Kobayashi achieved last week or course, so the race is on!

There isn't too much history to look back on for the Korean Grand Prix, but it definitely has an explosive feel to it. Risks will be taken and whether they pay off or back fire will be the deciding factor.

If Vettel gets poll, expect him to hold off the challenge from the rest of the increasingly frustrated field.
