NORTH LONDON DERBY PREVIEW

The first North London Derby of the 2021/22 Premier League season.

Both teams haven't had the best 12 months and Arsenal in particular started the season relatively poorly while Spurs have been on a run of poor form but this derby is the chance to turn it around for both of them. Let's take a look and try to predict how it will go down.

Arsenal:

Arsenal had a dreadful start to the season, losing all 3 of their first 3 games before finally winning the last 2 against Norwich and Burnley.

They did face Man City and Chelsea in the opening 3 games and no one expected them to win but the manner in which they lost was of major concern to the players. They showed no spirit, no belief and no fight and that was seen in the scoreline, losing 5-0 to City and 2-0 to Chelsea.

They have improved recently and a big contributor to that is the fact that they have a fully fit squad to pick from and haven't been restricted by injuries.

The signing of Tomiyasu seems to be good business and he's settled in nicely. Arteta does like his team to go wide which counters the way Spurs play, it will be interesting to see how Arsenal’s wingers will do up against the Spurs fullbacks.

Tottenham:

Spurs had the opposite start to Arsenal when it came to the start. A statement 1-0 win against Man City showed everyone that they were to be taken seriously and they also did it without the help of a certain Harry Kane.

They then beat Wolves by a narrow scoreline of 1-0, thanks to an early Dele Alli penalty but they didn’t entirely play well.

A routine 1-0 win over Watford was next before their poor form started. A 3-0 thumping away to Crystal Palace and what was even more worrying were the stats. Palace had 62% possession and 18 shots (4 on target) while Spurs only had 2 shots.

Spurs fans were extremely annoyed at this result especially because Kane was now back but he didn’t look like himself. The final game was another embarrassment but this time to Chelsea. Same score again, 3-0 loss.

Kane was nowhere to be seen and it looks like the summer transfer saga may have affected him mentally. Tottenham fans have also been calling out the newly appointed, Nuno Santos, questioning his tactics and whether he is utilising all the attacking options he has.

Nuno has them set up so that they sit back, stay very narrow and attack through the centre on the counter. It works certain times and against Arsenal it could work very well especially since Arsenal can be weak in the transition.

Conclusion:

I think it will be draw for this North London Derby.

I think both styles from the two managers will cancel each other out, causing both attacks to be nullified and therefore quite a boring game to watch.

I feel Arsenal will take the lead through Aubameyang before Kane wins a penalty and slots it home to equalise but unfortunately no team will find the second goal and the game finishes 1-1.
