Atalanta V Liverpool Preview
Serie A side Atalanta are set to host Liverpool at the Stadio Atleti Azzurri d'Italia for a Group D clash of the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday. The Italian side go into the November 3rd game on the back of a 2-1 win over Crotone on Saturday with Colombian attacker Luis Muriel getting a brace.
Liverpool, on the other hand, have emerged victorious from a tough match against West Ham United in the English Premier League helped by goals from goals from Mohamed Salah and ex-Wolves forward Diogo Jota.
Atalanta's Serie A form guide:
Liverpool's English Premier League form guide:
Atlanta coach Gian Piero Gasperini will have to do without Italian goalkeeper Marco Carnesecchi and center-back Mattia Caldara, both out to injuries. Left-back Robin Gosens and Dutch international and midfielder Marten de Roon look doubtful too. The news is that Marco Sportiello will fill in for Carnesecchi between the pots.
Jurgen Klopp on the other hand will be without his defensive stalwarts, centre-back Virgil van Dijk and Brazil international Fabinho, owing to what looks like long-term injuries.
Atalanta probable XI in a 3-4-2-1 formation:
Marco Sportiello, Rafael Toloi, Cristian Romero, Berat Djimsiti, Hans Hateboer, Mario Pasalic, Remo Freuler, Johan Mojica, Josip Ilicic, Luis Muriel, Duvan Zapata
Liverpool probable XI in a 4-3-3 formation:
Alisson Becker, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Joel Matip, Joe Gomez, Andrew Robertson, Jordan Henderson, Georginio Wijnaldum, Roberto Firmino, Diogo Jota, Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane
Atalanta who reached the quarter finals of the Champions League last time, have been one of the most entertaining teams in Serie A and are known for their attacking flair.
Despite their 3rd position on the Serie A table in the 2019-20 season, they hammered in 98 League goals which is 18 and 22 more than Juventus and Inter Milan above them.
Folks like Luis Muriel, Duvan Zapata and Josip Ilicic who were the top-scorers will pose a threat to Liverpool defense going forward.
As for the Liverpool defense, Klopp is expecting some kind of chemistry between youngsters Nathaniel Phillips and Joe Gomez to develop at the back, having performed well in the game against West Ham on Saturday.
Even though these two sides do not have a history, the UK bookmakers odds are on Liverpool to take 3 points from Tuesday night's game.
