Borussia Dortmund are back after the two-month break to take on Schalke 04 at the Signal Iduna Park on Saturday, May 16 for a major Bundesliga derby.
Coach Lucien Favre's men have won their previous four Bundesliga games on the trot and managed to keep the gap with League toppers Bayern Munich to just 4 points.
Dortmund beat Eintracht Frankfurt 4-0 at home, Werder Bremen 2-0 away, Freiburg 1-0 at home and Borussia Monchengladbach 2-1 on the road. They will aim to pick up where they left off before the break.
The young Jaden Sancho will be one player to look out for with 14 assists and an equal number of goals to his credit.
Not to be forgotten is the 19-year old Erling Braut Haaland who came over from RB Salzburg in January and gave such potency to the Dortmund attack.
The Norwegian prodigy has hammered in 12 goals from a mere 11 appearances across all competitions for his new club.

As for team news, central defender Dan-Axel Zagadou is injured, but the break seems to have worked out well for star playmaker captain Marco Reus who could return for the Signal Iduna clash. Midfielder Thomas Delaney is another player who had time to get over his injuries.
Schalke 04 on the other hand have been in dismal form, going through their last seven Bundesliga outings without a win. This horrific spell included two 0-5 thrashings to Bayern Munich and RB Leipzig and a 0-3 drubbing to bottom half side FC Koln. David Wagner's men are thus lucky to be even in the 6th place on the table.
On the team fitness front, centre back Ozan Kabak is out injured. But there are many players who have benefited from the break. Defenders Juan Miranda and Salif Sane could be back alongside midfielders Omar Mascarell, Daniel Caligiuri, Suat Serdar and Benjamin Stambouli.
The fate of goalkeepers Markus Schubert and Alexander Nubel for the Saturday clash seem uncertain especially with the latter committing to a Bayern Munich move.

Schalke 04 have proved difficult opponents to Dortmund over the years. Their previous visit to the Signal Iduna in April 2019 was a 4-2 win and the last time these two met the game ended in a 0-0 draw.
Of the 7 encounters since 2016, Schalke 04 have won 2, Dortmund 1 and the remaining four have been draws one of which included a sensational 4-4 score line where Dortmund threw away a 4-0 lead at home in 2017.

So the May 16 clash could be another goal-fest in the making with a bias towards a home side win.
One thing “not” going for the hosts will be the absence of the raucous local support at the Signal Iduna.
