PSG vs Bayern Preview
The stage is set for two of Europe's biggest names to clash at the Estadio Do Sport Lisboa E Benfica for the finals of the 2019-20 UEFA Champions League.
After having failed to cross the Round of 16 threshold in the past three seasons, PSG now look emboldened enough to bag a fourth trophy – winning the Ligue 1 title along with two domestic competitions.
Ending the 25-year old wait for a European final entry, the Parisienne club made a comeback in the competition by overcoming plucky underdogs Atalanta in the quarter finals and comfortably defeating RB Leipzig 3-0 in the semis.
They also eliminated Borussia Dortmund in the last 16 prior to the lockdown and topped the Group A cluster ahead of Real Madrid.
A 7-1 crushing on aggregate of Chelsea in the Round of 16 was followed by the 8-2 demolition of Barcelona in the quarter finals and a comfortable 3-0 win over a stoic Olympique Lyonnais in the Final four stage.
As for team news, Niklas Sule had to be replaced by Jerome Boateng in the second half against Lyon with Bayern as the experienced defender was suffering from muscular problems.
However according to coach Hansi Flick, Boateng is expected to be fit to start the final while Benjamin Pavard should also be available again following a late cameo in the semi-final.
Boateng is likely to feature with David Alaba in central defence, while Kingsley Coman is expected to be recover from a muscular problem.
Coman could replace Ivan Perisic on the left of an attack which will also include Thomas Muller and Serge Gnabry, while Benjamin Pavard’s ongoing absence with an ankle injury means that Joshua Kimmich will continue on the right of a back four.
PSG's potent attacking triumvirate was restored against Leipzig with Kylian Mbappe fit to start and Angel di Maria back from suspension, though Idrissa Gana Gueye dropped to the bench due to injury with Leandro Paredes taking his place in midfield.
Left-back Layvin Kurzawa looks doubtful for the final withhaving sustained a thigh injury.
Sergio Rico deputized in goal for PSG after first-choice Keylor Navas suffered a torn hamstring in the quarter finals against Atalanta, but the latter is hopeful of being ready for the Sunday clash.
For PSG, Neymar could hold the key.
The Braziian has been in sublime form but it's his inability to convert his chances into goals that could worry coach Thomas Tuchel.
Neymar's missed opportunities almost gave the game away against Atalanta but for two injury-time goals from Marquinhos and Eric Choupo-Moting.
He failed to find the target against Leipzig despite playing brilliantly.
It was some very poor finishing that prevented the French side from getting at least two goals against the Bundesliga champs.
Robert Lewandowski looks set to add to his season's tally of 55 goals this Sunday.
Lewandowski and Serge Gnarby will be prime threats to the PSG goal, the duo having got 24 goals between them in the competition this season.
