Chelsea v Wolverhampton Preview

Frank Lampard's Blues missed an opportunity to secure a Champions League football entry on Wednesday when they lost 3-5 to reigning champions Liverpool at Anfield.

Chelsea have one last chance to achieve just that when they host Nuno Espirito Santo's Wolverhampton at Stamford for the season's last Premier League outing on Sunday.

While the Blues have been listless on the road, losing three away games on the trot, Stamford Bridge has been a sort of a fortress for them.

Having won six consecutive games at the venue, the hosts will be looking to add a seventh out there against the Wolves.

Chelsea v Wolves Bookie Bonuses

Nuno Santo's side will be under much lesser pressure than their weekend opponents as the worst that could happen is that they could slip to the 7th or 8th spots and still book an entry to the Europa League.

Wolves have been shaky on their travels, losing to Sheffield United and drawing to Burnley. In fact they don't have pleasant memories of their last fixture at home against Chelsea last year when they were whipped 2-5 at the Molineux.

Chelsea are the fourth highest scorers along with Leicester and have a wealth of attacking options in form of the very talented Christian Pulisic, Tammy Abraham, Mason Mount and the in-form Olivier Giroud – all of whom have been among goals of late.

Olivier Giroud has established himself as Lampard’s preferred key man upfront since Chelsea returned to action last month, edging out the normally prolific Tammy Abraham out of the starting side.

Giroud’s experience and potency in front of goal have been essential in keeping the Blues on track for a top-four slot.

But it's their weak defense that could let them down with goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga being the culprit.

The Blues have conceded the most number of goals among teams of the Top half of the table and this is something the Wolves who are so dangerous on counter-attacks will look to exploit.

Folks like Raul Jiminez, Diogo Jota and Adama Traore could be all over the Chelsea goal even before they realize it; so quick the Wolves are on the breaks.

There is little doubt that Kepa will be put to test more than once on Sunday.

Given the attacking intent of both sides, this encounter could very well see goals coming in at both ends.

Although the Wolves are on a momentum – beating Everton 3-0 at home, drawing 1-1 at Burnley before beating Crystal Palace 2-0 at home – Chelsea look the more likely side to take three points from the Stamford Bridge clash.

As far team news go, Chelsea will be without N’Golo Kante in midfield due to a hamstring injury with Billy Gilmour joining the injured list.

Ross Barkley looks a 50-50 case but should be fit to play in midfield. Nuno Santo, on the other hand, has no injury concerns as such and has a fully fit side.
