Chelsea vs Everton Preview

Chelsea will look to keep their winning momentum under Thomas Tuchel going when they host a Top Four challenger Everton at Stamford Bridge on Monday night, March 8th.

The Blues who came back from Anfield after an impressive 0-1 win over Liverpool last Thursday night are fully aware that any slip up against Everton would mean dropping out of the Top Four. Everton, who sit one point back in the fifth spot with a game in hand, go into the Stamford Bridge clash on the back of three successive wins, one of them being a 0-2 victory over Liverpool at Anfield in mid-February.

Last 6 Matches Form

Chelsea Premier League form: W/W/W/D/D/W

Everton Premier League form: D/L/L/W/W/W

As far as Chelsea team news go, Thiago Silva is gearing up for a return after an injury spell, but Andreas Christensen’s fine performance at the back in recent games may deny the veteran ex-PSG center-back a slot in the starting XI. Tammy Abraham remains a doubt but is not too far from a return. Tuchel experimented with not picking striker Olivier Giroud and Tammy Abraham in his XI against Liverpool and may continue to do the same against Everton on Monday.

For Everton, Tom Davies, Seamus Coleman and James Rodriguez will all be assessed for fitness ahead of the game. Allan came off the bench in the 0-1 win over West Brom on Wednesday and should start.

Line Ups

Chelsea probable starting XI in a 3-4-2-1 formation: Mendy (goal); Azpilicueta, Christensen, Rudiger; James, Jorginho, Kante, Chilwell; Havertz, Mount; Werner

Everton probable starting XI in a 5-3-2 formation: Pickford (goal); Coleman, Holgate, Keane, Godfrey, Digne; Doucoure, Davies, Gomes; Calvert-Lewin, Richarlison

Chelsea vs Everton Verdict

Chelsea have been looking good under Thomas Tuchel and the pace of Mason Mount and Timo Werner upfront can cause the Everton defense serious damage on Sunday. Everton have in their ranks the likes of Richarlison who has found his goal-scoring touch and along with Dominic Calvert-Lewin will create opportunities to score. From the looks of it, a 1-1 outcome at Stamford Bridge on Monday night seems likely but the bookmakers' bias is for Chelsea given their form under Tuchel.

Of the last eight times these two have met, both sides have managed to win three fixtures each on home grounds. In fact, Everton succumbed to a 0-4 defeat on their last trip to Stamford Bridge exactly a year ago suggesting that history is very much on the side of Chelsea in March 8th's encounter in West London.
