Croatia host Sweden at the Stadion Maksimir, Zagreb for a critical Group A3 encounter after both nations lost against France and Portugal in September.

While the Swedes lots by margins of 0-1 and 0-2 to France and Portugal respectively, Croatia were thrashed 2-4 and 1-4 by the same.

The Croats could be excused up to some extent for the defeats since two of their attacking midfield heavyweights Luka Modric and Ivan Rakitic were unavailable.

The good news for the hosts is that Modric is recovering from his injury and is all set to feature at Zagreb on Sunday.

The Swedes, on the other hand, have yet to find the net in the Nations League and will depend on the likes of Marcus Berg, Emil Fosberg and Alexander Isak to give them a few.

A key absence for the visitors will be midfielder Gustav Svensson out on suspension.

Apart from Modric and Rakitic back in the midfield, the Croats will have Ivan Perisic of Bayern Munich, Andrej Kramaric, Ante Rebic in the attack.

Croatia have been strong at home and have won all their previous games against sides like Hungary, Slovakia and Georgia but the Swedes could be a much tougher proposition.

Both teams have hardly any history having met just once in the last fifteen years. Their last encounter was an international friendly in February 2012 that Sweden won 1-3.

  • Croatia have played 6 matches.
  • They have 3 wins; 1 draw; and 2 losses.
  • These results give them a recent Win-Draw-Loss rate of 50%-16%-33%.
  • The Swedes on the other hand have played  7 games over the course of the last year of which they have won 4, drawn 1 and lost 2 giving them a recent Win-Draw-Loss rate of 57%-14%-28%.

With no injury issues plaguing Zlatko Dalic and Janne Andersson's sides and both desperate for a win, Sunday's Zagreb match should be an absorbing affair.

The online bookmakers odds are on the hosts to take three points given their strong record at home.
