England v Denmark Preview
[pokareview_bonusbox id=”26337″ layout=”style1″ score_style=”percentage”]Gareth Southgate's Three Lions will be looking to build on their significant win over Belgium at the Wembley on Sunday.
England moved to the top of the Group A2 table with their victory over the Belgian, while the Danes routed Iceland 3-0 on Sunday to keep their campaign alive.
After showing that they can beat the best in the world, Southgate's men will be looking to tighten their hold on the top spot of the cluster.
Although the Three Lions have won 20 of their last 21 competitive matches at home, they will be wary of the Danes considering that they had a difficult outing at Copenhagen when they had met in September.
For England, the good news could be that Harry Kane, who was introduced well after an hour into the match against Belgium, could be starting at Wembley on Wednesday night.
Everton top scorer Dominic Calvert-Lewin who made a tepid start to his debut against the Belgians could make way for Jaden Sancho. Ben Chilwell has recovered from his illnes and could replace Kieran Trippier at the back.
England will still have to do without Raheem Sterling out with a long-term injury.
As for Denmark, Martin Braithwaite and Christian Eriksen have started in both of their matches over the past week and are unlikely to be rested for the critical Wembley clash.
Mathias Jensen was an unused substitute against Iceland and could provide Kasper Hjulmand with some fresh legs in the midfield, while Pione Sisto is another who is pushing for inclusion.
England possible starting lineup:
Pickford (goal); Dier, Coady, Maguire; James, Rice, Henderson, Chilwell; Sancho, Kane, Rashford
Denmark possible starting lineup:
Schmeichel (goal); Wass, Kjaer, Christensen, Skov; Delaney, Hojbjerg; Poulsen, Eriksen, Braithwaite; Dolberg
The last meeting between these two ended in a drab 0-0 draw with both sides managing just two shots on target each.
Romelu Lukaku’s penalty on Sunday broke an impressive run of six clean sheets for England, which is why the Danes could have a fight on their hands as far as breaking the stubborn English defense is concerned.
Considering the Three Lions' phenomenal record at the Wembley a 2-0 win on October 14th looks a distinct possibility.
