Liverpool vs. Burnley Preview
Reigning champions Liverpool play host to Sean Dyche's struggling Burnley on Thursday evening for a significant Premier League clash. Jurgen Klopp's Reds who are in the 4th place, are desperate to keep up with title contenders Leicester City, Manchester United and Manchester City after having meandered through four winless games while on the other hand 17th placed Burnley will be wanting to move further away from relegation territory.
Manchester United and Liverpool will lock horns for a second time in a week for a 4th Round FA Cup tie at Old Trafford on Sunday. Following a 0-0 stalemate at Anfield in the Premier League last weekend, in which the visiting United side created the better chances, the Red Devils will hope to get the better of Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool this time around.
Form Guide
Ole Solksjaer's men beat Watford 1-0 to progress to the 4th round, while Liverpool overcame a young Aston Villa side 4-1 in a 3rd round fixture after the Villans had their first team sidelined owing to a COVID-19 outbreak in their camp.
United have been in stupendous form in the Premier League, coming back from being a goal down against Fulham to win 1-2 away at Craven Cottage. The Red Devils now top the EPL table after 19 games while forthcoming rivals Liverpool have slipped to the 4th after their shock 0-1 defeat to Burnley at Anfield.
Team News
Centre-back Victor Lindelof missed the trip to Fulham owing to a back injury and it’s doubtful if he’ll be able to feature for the 4th round clash. Phil Jones and Brandon Williams are also on the injured list but apart from that, Solksjaer has no fitness issues as such.
As for the visitors to Old Trafford, defenders Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez have still not recovered from their long-term injuries but centre-back Joel Matip could be back for the FA Cup duel. Young ex-Wolves striker, Diogo Jota, is still a month away from returning while the involvement of Kostas Tsimikas and Naby Keita look doubtful.
Manchester United v Liverpool Prediction
Liverpool who are United's most common opponent in the FA Cup have won the tie on four occasions from their 17 encounters in the competition – while their Sunday rivals have emerged victorious in nine. The general expectation is that the weekend clash could go into extra time and possibly penalties with the hosts progressing into the next round.
