Gareth Bale
Manchester United’s long-term interest in Real Madrid winger, Gareth Bale is not news. Before the Welsh player joined the Spanish side, Manchester United were so interested that they were willing to pay more than what Madrid offered.

However Bale wanted Real Madrid, and Daniel Levy wasn’t keen on selling to another Premier League side. So Bale’s decision just made his life easier.

Since his arrival at Madrid, Gareth Bale has experienced mixed fortunes, winning two Champions league titles and a league title in the little time he has spent there. His injuries have also been frequent, with him spending a large part of his club’s last season on the side lines.

Although Zinedine Zidane, the Spanish club’s manager has made it clear that Bale is valuable to the club and that he has no intention of selling him, there are reports that the club’s president, Florentino Perez is willing to cash in on the player while he can still get something worthwhile for him.

El Confidencial reported back in October that Perez is getting frustrated with the player’s frequent visits to the treatment room.

Manchester United manager, Jose Mourinho has not hidden his admiration and interest in the player. He even came out to say it clearly last summer. Some reports believe the Portuguese tactician could make a move for Bale as early as the winter transfer window.

Jose Mourinho doesn’t seem to think too much of the player’s injury history and reportedly has him high on his priority list of preferred attacking additions to his side. Mourinho mentioned that if Real Madrid didn’t play Bale against his side in their UEFA Super cup clash, it would mean that the player could possibly be on his way out. Zidane reacted by starting the winger in the game, and consequently put all rumours to rest.

The Manchester club could still be willing to pay around £50 million for the player if he became available.

Mourinho not being concerned about Bale’s injury problems may be because of his confidence and track record in keeping players fit. However with his team’s injury record so far this season, the move may not be a smart one.

Most of the key players in the Manchester United side have been injured at one point or the other this season, and adding a player who has been injured at least nineteen times since he arrived at Real Madrid to that list may turn out to be counterproductive. That, and considering his £350,000 weekly wages at Madrid. Plus the fact that they would have to pay him at least that, may mean they may have to review the potentials of the deal.

However, the possibility of the deal happening would depend on how much value Perez places on what Zidane wants. Whatever happens this January transfer window, it surely won’t be the last time we will hear about Gareth Bale and Manchester United.
