Germany v England Friendly Prediction and preview – Signal Iduna Park, Dortmund – March 22, 2017

England will take on German might in a friendly to be played out at the Signal Iduna Park, Dortmund, on Wednesday night.

Correct Score Tips Germany v England Friendly

  • Germany 3-1 England @ 12/1
  • Germany 2-2 England @ 14/1
The English attack may look a little toothless without the prolific Harry Kane, the Tottenham talisman. He's out for months thanks to an ankle injury. But it has paved the way for the recall of 34-year old England veteran, Jermain Defoe. It is he on whom striking responsibilities may rest on along with the likes of a rejuvenated Jamie Vardy and the mercurial Raheem Sterling.

Surprisingly someone like the speedy Theo Walcott has not found favor with manager Gareth Southgate. This could be something to do with Arsenal's disastrous form of late.

Gary Cahill is the lone Chelsea member in the English squad. He may have to team up at the back with Manchester United's Luke Shaw, Phil Jones and Chris Smalling at Dortmund.

Eric Dier of Tottenham, who scored the decisive goal in England's 3-2 friendly win over Germany last year looks an automatic mid-field choice. He will have his club mate Del Alli to share that field space come Wednesday. Adam Lallana (Liverpool) is another strong mid-field choice.

Breaking news is that talented West Ham midfielder, Michail Antonio, who probably would have debuted at Dortmund on Wednesday, is ruled out after sustaining a hamstring injury against Leicester City last weekend. The perennial English international, Wayne Rooney, is out, too, plagued by injury issues. Nathan Redmond, the striker from Southampton in another who could make the cut in the starting XI.

For the goalkeeper's spot, Southgate needs to choose between the English veteran, Joe Hart, Fraser Forster of Southampton and Tom Heaton of Burnley.

Germany haven't dropped a single game in their last six appearances and won five of them in fact. Joachim Low's has at his disposal oodles of youth and talent in names likes Leroy Sane (Manchester City), Emre Can (Liverpool), Julian Weigl, Timo Werner, Julian Draxler (Paris St Germain) and Niklas Sule.

Lery Sane and Draxler, especially, have been truly phenomenal upfront for their respective clubs. They could give the English defence a taste of what's to come on March 22.

Lukas Podolski will be making his final appearance for his country at Dortmund. Whether the 31-year year old legendary forward will play the entire 90 minutes is another matter. However he will have someone like Thomus Muller to carry on his legacy of goal-scoring.

Mesut Ozil and Shkodran Mustafi are in the squad, too, but their poor form coinciding with Arsenal's dismal run in recent weeks could weigh heavily on their inclusion in the starting XI.

The reliable Mats Hummels and the brilliant new find, Joshua Kimmich (Bayern Munich) are very likely to feature in the March 22 clash. For the goalkeeper's position, it would be a tough call between Manuel Neuer (Bayern Munich) and Marc-Andre ter Stegen (Barcelona). But being a friendly encounter, it looks likely that the latter may be given a chance. Bernd Leno, the Bayer Leverkusen goalie is the third choice, though. Andre Schurrle and Mario Gomez are surprise recalls and one can expect to see one of them featuring upfront for some time on the field come Wednesday.

Germany's youth and firepower obviously make them the favorites to win the Dortmund clash. A 3-1 score line in favor of the hosts looks a likely outcome.
