James Milner explains how Liverpool will win Premier League title 1

Updated: 10th December 2024

James Milner has explained the importance of defending and clean sheets if Liverpool want to win the Premier League title.

The midfielder noted that his side are far better this season when it comes to their ability at the back.

The addition of Alisson Becker has certainly gone a huge way in helping that – and Liverpool are showing they can keep a clean sheet.

“That’s something we have to work on: winning all different types of games,” the No.7 told Liverpoolfc.com.

“We know that and it was never going to be easy. We know we can play better and control the game a bit more when we were in the lead in the second half.

“But this is a tough place to come. I don’t think many people come here and have an easy night, that’s for sure, so it was a good performance in the end just to get the result.”

“We know that, with the players we have going forward, if we keep those clean sheets then we have every chance of nicking a goal at the other end.

“So it comes from the keeper and all the way through the back four and all the way through the team and the way we play, everyone defends together.”

Milner the winner

Milner has a great record when he scores in games – and has never actually lost a match when it’s happened.

The midfielder is someone who has gone from strength to strength in the last few seasons, and is a key part of Klopp’s side.

While some players would be looking to hang their boots up – at least at top level, when they reach their 30s, Milner has just improved.

That’s not gone unnoticed by fans, and with the depth in Liverpool’s squad this season, he may well get the chance to rest more and prolong his career even longer.
