Leeds United vs Manchester United Preview

Traditional rivals Leeds United and Manchester United renew their hostilities when they lock horns at Elland Road on Sunday for a Premier league clash.

Marcelo Biesla's Leeds placed tenth on the EPL table are on a high after having come out of a couple of unexpectedly good results – a 2-1 win over dominant League leaders Manchester City followed by an impressive 1-1 draw with title holders Liverpool.

Second-placed Manchester United have consolidated their spot in the Top Four and after an embarrassing 0-0 draw with 13th placed Crystal Palace, Ole Solksjaer's Red Devils have registered as many as five wins on the trot including a 2-0 win over Man City.

Leeds who remained sidelined through injury in the 1-1 draw with Liverpool is likely to miss out once more. Pascal Struijk should continue in his role of a center-back while Liam Cooper remains suspended. Bielsa is likely to go with the same side that played Liverpool on Monday night.

For United, Eric Bailly is back from injury and could return to the matchday squad but Solksjaer may not choose to give him a start on Sunday. Dean Henderson is expected to keep his place between the posts despite a less-than-convincing display in his last three outings having let in a goal in each of them.

Paul Pogba could be forced to play in a deeper position against Leeds in case Mason Greenwood, Bruno Fernandes, Marcus Rashford and Edinson Cavani were to start as the frontal four.  Anthony Martial is out with a long-term knee injury and is unlikely to feature further in the season.

Line Ups

Leeds starting XI in a 4-4-1-1 formation: Meslier (goal); Alioski, Struijk, Llorente, Ayling; Harrison, Dallas, Phillips, Helder Costa; Tyler Roberts; Bamford

Manchester United starting XI in a 4-2-3-1 formation: Henderson (goal); Wan-Bissaka, Lindelof, Maguire, Shaw; Pogba, McTominay; Greenwood, Bruno Fernandes, Rashford; Cavani.

To state that Solksjaer's men are kings of away games would be most appropriate. The Red Devils are undefeated in 23 Premier League matches on the road and are favourites to take three points from the Elland Road game.

Bielsa’s men have taken the fight to the tough opposition on a number of occasions as evinced from the manner in which they overcame a dominant City side despite being down to 10 men. One can expect a lively affair with United expectedly coming out on top.

Leeds could be punished for their over-attacking style that would leave gaps for vicious United counter-attacks – something that had happened when Biesla's team had visited Old Trafford before Christmas and gotten thrashed 6-2.
