English Premier League preview: Liverpool v Manchester United Predictions – Anfield – Sunday, January 19, 2020 – 16:30 hrs BST

Liverpool v Manchester United Predictions

Liverpool 3-0 Manchester United 9/1

Liverpool 3-1 Manchester United 12/1

Odds are subject to change and were correct as of 16/01/2020.

Liverpool have just moved from strength to strength in 2019 – a close runners-up to Manchester City in Premier League, European champions and come 2020 they are even stronger – World Club champions at Qatar and now on the way to becoming certain PL champions what with a huge 16 point gap over their nearest rivals Pep Guardiola's City.

Liverpool Form

Jurgen Klopps trio of forwards – Mohammed Salah, Firminio and Sadio Mane are among the most feared scoring combinations in the world…and at the back they have someone like Virgil Van Djiyk who came very close to winning the Ballon D'Or this.

The fullbacks Andy Robertson and particularly Trent Alexander-Arnold are playing the best football of their careers.

Alexander-Arnold even won the Player of the Month award for December confirming his rapid rise to stardom.

It's incredible that the Reds have yet to lose in this year’s PL season, winning 21 of their 22 matches played.

The only draw they played out was at Old Trafford against Manchester United in October and they are ready to host the Red Devils for the return match at Anfield after a 12-match winning streak since then.

Manchester United Form

Ole Solsjaer's United are just out of a 1-0 win over Wolverhampton on Wednesday that has taken them to the 4th of the knock-out tournament.

A 4-0 Premier League over bottom-placed Norwich City before that on January 11 gave them their first win for 2020.

United's progress this season has been a mixture of a string of amazing wins and utterly miserable defeats But, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants to change this mentality.

Taken as a whole they are side on the mend with Solskjaer showing a clear tendency to change for the better and he will get the perfect opportunity to do so as they look to break up their rival’s road to an invincible season at Anfield on Sunday evening.

From a situation where they were teetering at the edge of the top half at the 10th spot in early November, they are now up to the 5th spot and aiming for the Top Four.

The Red Devils played some of the most scintillation football when they beat champions Manchester City at the Etihad in December and beat Tottenham Hotspur on the trot.

They showed enormous fighting abilities when they came back from 0-3 down against Sheffield United to draw level with a three-goal blitz in the second half within the space of 7 minutes.

Rashford a Doubt for the Liverpool v Manchester United game

But the big concern for Solskjaer and United fans ahead of the Anfield game is the fitness of Marcus Rashford, a man who has been instrumental in United's resurgence.

His lighting speed and trickery inside the box has earned him 14 PL goals so far which is only next to Leicester City's Jamie Vardy.

The England striker came on as a substitute against Wolves on Wednesday night and lasted just 15 minutes before being brought off with an injury.

Solskjaer admitted his decision to bring Rashford on had backfired and that he was a doubt for this match.

In Anthony Martial, Mason Greenwood, Juan Mata and winger Daniel James, Rashford has immense talent among these four to back him up in attack.

Rashford's potential absence from the starting XI in Sunday's game could mean a big blow for the Red Devils.

As for Liverpool, Jurgen Klopp revealed that Fabinho, Joel Matip, and Dejan Lovren are all nearing a return to action from their injuries.

Although the Liverpool boss may prefer not to change a winning formula too much.

Liverpool as a red-hot favourite among the online UK bookmakers hasn't taken any one by surprise.
