Liverpool vs Tottenham Hotspur Preview

Updated: 23rd January 2025

English Premier League preview: Liverpool v Tottenham Hotspurs – Anfield – October 27, 2019 – 16:30 BST

Liverpool's cent-per cent start to the Premier League season was brought to a grinding halt courtesy a draw at Old Trafford against Manchester United on Sunday, but Jurgen Klopp's men returned to winning ways by thrashing Belgian outfit Genk 1-4 in a Group E away clash of the UEFA Champions League. England international Oxlade-Chamberlain, who missed almost all of last season with a knee injury, drilled in a low shot in as early as the 2nd minute of play and brilliantly converted a second with an outside-of-the-boot finish from Roberto Firmino's pass in the 57th.

Tottenham Hotspur finally kick-started their Champions League campaign in style by overwhelming Red Star Belgrade 5-0 after they were thrashed 7-2 at home by Bayern Munich in their last Group B game. Double strikes from Harry Kane and Heung-Min Son helped the Spurs register their biggest win of the season. Whether this win will be enough to bolster their confidence going into a critical Premier League clash on Sunday against the dominant table-toppers at Anfield is another matter. Mauricio Pochettino's side have been terrible in away games and are yet to register a win on the road this season. Their fourteen defeats from their last 31 games across all competitions is a testimony to the kind of dismal form they are in.

Liverpool of late haven't exactly looked the kind of side that started the season in such flourish. Apart from the 1-1 draw at Old Trafford last weekend, most of their recent wins were narrow and providential. Their defense isn't in the best of shape and have been susceptible to counter attacks. The Reds were able to maintain clean sheets in only their wins against Burnley and Sheffield this season and have conceded in every game across all competitions. This is something the likes of the very pacy Son, Del Alli and Kane are going to exploit.

BTTS Odds for Liverpool v Tottenham

Which is why the ODDS for both teams to score are high with 8/13 for a YES and 6/5 as a NO.

In their present forms, even a slightly jaded Liverpool is an outright favourite what with history working heavily in their favour. Tottenham have never been able to win in their last 8 trips to Anfield since 2013 and have lost in six of those outings.

Predicted correct score for 27th's game is 3-1 with odds of 10/1 with Mohamed Salah (4/5), Sadio Mane (5/6), Roberto Firmino (11/10), Divock Origi (11/10) and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain (5/2) looking like anytime goal-scorers for the hosts.

The return of the talented Oxlade-Chamberlain from fitness is a boon for the Reds and strengthen the hosts’ case for a comfortable win.

For the Spurs the odds for anytime scorers are Harry Kane (13/10), Son Heung-Min (11/4) and Lucas Moura (3/1).

Tottenham are presently in the 7th spot with 12 points, 2 behind 6th placed Crystal Palace's 14 and on equal points with sides like Burnley (8th) and Sheffield United (9th).
