Another week, another big game in the Premier League. The red side of Liverpool up against the blue side of London. People are already calling this a title decider, which in my opinion is very premature but nonetheless, it’ll be a very interesting game to watch and let’s get into previewing it.
Liverpool:
Liverpool are off to a perfect start in the Premier League this season, two wins out of two. Granted they have played Norwich away and Burnley at home but last season, these would have been the games that Liverpool could have potentially struggled in.
This time around they dealt with them comfortably, a 3-0 win and a 2-0 win respectively.
Let’s take a closer look at the Burnley game as that is the last match they played. They dominated possession, having 67% of the ball, they took 27 shots, 9 of which were on target.
This showcases how controlling Liverpool were and how good they were.
Burnley had little to no chances throughout the whole game which again shows the strong grip Liverpool had over the game.
With Van Dijk back and Matip looks like he’s returning to full form, they have their strongest defensive pairing to try and deal with Lukaku on Saturday and it’ll be a very interesting battle.
Chelsea:
The Blues are also off to a perfect start like Liverpool.
Their last game however was against their London rivals, Arsenal.
People were hesitant to predict that Chelsea would dominate the game as they expected Arsenal to play out of their skin as it was a derby and they expected Arsenal to turn up but alas they didn’t.
They had similar stats to Liverpool against Burnley, Chelsea had 65% possession, 22 shots, 5 of which were on target.
A very efficient performance and that was largely thanks to their new signing, Romelu Lukaku.
The Belgian returned back to London for £97.5m from Inter Milan and it is clear he came back a more improved, matured and composed striker. He bullied Pablo Mari and the Arsenal defence were simply scared of him.
He manhandled the entire defence and dictated the attacks by coming deep, passing the ball out and running into the box, something which Chelsea were missing last season.
Chelsea will sit deep and absorb the pressure against Liverpool and having Lukaku will be a big help to them as he pins the centre backs deeper.
Conclusion + Pick:
I think Chelsea are going to win at Anfield tomorrow.
Tuchel has made them one of the best at counter attacks and extremely efficient at taking their chances.
Liverpool will have more of the ball but they won’t do much with it as Chelsea are so good defensively.
As long as Chelsea deal with the right hand side of Liverpool, the likes of Salah and Alexander-Arnold, Chelsea will win this game comfortably.
