Manchester City vs Manchester Utd Preview

Leaders Manchester City and bitter rivals Manchester United will lock horns for probably the most anticipated Premier League clash of the season at the Etihad stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Guardiola's City will be going into the Etihad home clash on the back of a 21-game winning run in all competitions and 14 points clear from forthcoming rivals at top the table. The City juggernaut rolled on with a 4-1 thrashing of the Wolves on Tuesday night and their incredible unbeaten run since November 21st extended a bit further.

With five draws and a loss from their last eight Premier League outings, Ole Solksjaer's United have themselves to blame for falling so far behind their city rivals. The Red Devils will seriously rue their late January loss to bottom scrapers Sheffield United at home and needless draws to struggling Arsenal, Crystal Palace and relegation candidates West Bromwich.

Their last 6 fixtures have garnered just 10 points while City were able to rack up their full quota of 18 points from the same number of outings.

Last 6 Matches Form

Manchester City Premier League form: W/W/W/W/W/W

Manchester United Premier League form: W/D/D/W/D/D

The team news for City is that left-back Nathaniel Ake has recovered from a long-term muscular problem and is now available for selection.

Guardiola is expected to make wholesale changes from the side that started against Wolves, with John Stones, Ilkay Gundogan, Phil Foden and Oleksandr Zinchenko all in line for starts for Sunday’s big game.

Guardiola could choose to operate Raheem Sterling through the middle with Bernardo Silva and Foden in the wide areas, which means Gabriel Jesus, Sergio Aguero and Riyad Mahrez could all be consigned to the bench.

As for Man United, David de Gea has left for Spain to attend to the birth of his first child, leaving Dean Henderson to keep the spot between the posts.

Juan Mata, Phil Jones and Paul Pogba will all miss out through injury, but Anthony Martial and Donny van de Beek could return to the squad, having been benched in United's last outing against Palace. Victor Lindelof is also expected to return in the heart of the defense after recovering from a back problem.

Mason Greenwood could be the player to drop out of the starting XI what with Edinson Cavani making his return from injury at Selhurst Park on Wednesday.

Line Ups

Manchester City probable starting XI:

Ederson (goal); Cancelo, Dias, Stones, Zinchenko; Gundogan, Rodri, De Bruyne; Foden, Sterling, Bernardo

Manchester United probable starting XI:

Henderson (goal); Wan-Bissaka, Lindelof, Maguire, Shaw; McTominay, Fred; James, Fernandes, Rashford; Cavani

Man City vs. Manchester United Verdict

Manchester United have won three of their last six meetings with Man City across all competitions, incurring just two defeats, both of which were at Old Trafford.

The Red Devils look the only side capable of making life difficult for a rampaging City. Despite their stupendous form in away games, the Red Devils seem to be struggling form-wise of late – which is why the UK bookmakers are wagering on the hosts to take three points from Sunday afternoon's game at the Etihad.
