Manchester United Transfer News: Jaded stars Lukaku and Pogba head for the Exit
Updated: 27th May 2023
Belgian forward Romelu Lukaku's exit from Manchester United looks certain on reports that Serie A club Inter-Milan have agreed to take in the 26-year old forward on personal terms.
It seems the management at Old Trafford are willing to let go off Lukaku for £62 million, although the ex-Everton star was signed a couple of years ago for a much higher signing fee of £75 million.
Lukaku, who had scored as many as 27 goals in his first season, managed barely 15 in the 2018-19 season, falling out of favour with coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer who preferred the much speedier and in-form Marcus Rashford in his place. Inter boss Antonio Conte in his endeavors to overhaul his side's squad, has singled out Lukaku as his prime transfer target this summer.
The Belgian striker was heard saying to Premium Sport
“It’s good to see Conte join Inter; for me he is the best manager in the world”.
Meanwhile Juventus sporting director Fabio Paratici is believed to be making a trip to London for discussions with Manchester United officials regarding the possible transfer of Paul Pogba.
The midfielder who was signed for a record fee of £89 million in 2015 from Juventus failed to live up to his reputation at Old Trafford and was constantly at loggerheads with managers Jose Mourinho and Solskjaer.
The French international has been linked to a move to Real Madrid with Zinedine Zidane evincing great interest in him but Juventus seem to have beaten Los Blancos to it and Pogba could well be heading to where he came from once.
With Pogba's departure almost a certainty, United are looking for a replacement and may have found one in the form of Ivan Rakitic of Barcelona. This is in light of the 30-year old midfielder's meeting with Barcelona’s general manager, Pep Segura, earlier this week where it was decided that he was free to leave Nou Camp although the Croatian seems least interested in such a move.
After having aggressively targeting Leicester back, Harry Maguire, aggressively for the past couple of months, the United management has found new interest in Crystal Palace star Aaron Wan-Bissaka whom the bosses at Selhurst Park are unwilling part with for anything less than £70 million. Earlier, it was reported that the Red Devils bid £40 million for the star and immediately had the bid rejected, after which they increased their offer to £60 million.
Manchester United's plan to sign two midfielders this summer have culminated into the pursuit of Sporting Lisbon star Bruno Fernandes who surely won't be coming cheap. If United are able to snare the 24-year old Portuguese, they could further target Everton’s Idrissa Gueye for that space. Gueye with his attacking instincts is expected to be a perfect foil for Fernandes.
Last plus not the least, the tug of war between United, Barcelona, Juventus and Paris Saint Germain (PSG) is on for Ajax boy wonder Matthijs de Ligt, with Barca believed to be the front-runners to secure the services of the 19-year old center-back. But latest reports seem to suggest that PSG is very close to a deal worth €75 million.
Raiola was pictured in Paris with French reporter Lassana Camara, who claimed that de Ligt's agent was there in the French capital to conclude the “transfer”.
Riola has brushed such speculation aside as ‘fake news’. But the deal, if it does go through would be worth a staggering €75 million a year, that could be hard to refuse.
