RB Leipzig V Paris Saint-Germain Preview

Red Bull Arena – Wednesday, 4th November 2020 – 20:00 hrs BST

RB Leipzig host Paris Saint-Germain at the Red Bull Arena on Wednesday in a Group H clash of the Champions League, with both sides desperate to register wins after suffering losses to Manchester United earlier.

Julian Nagelsmann's side were taken apart by United at Old Trafford, losing 0-5 after a clueless show in which English international Marcus Rashford scored a second-half hat-trick.

On the domestic front, Leipzig have come out of a 0-1 loss to Borussia Monchengladbach, ending a run of four consecutive Bundesliga wins, that have seen them relent their top position in the League to Bayern Munich and Dortmund.

Thomas Tuchel's side were humiliated at home in Paris again by Ole Solksjaer's United a week ago in their UCL opener but they did bounce back in their next with a 2-0 win in Istanbul against Istanbul Basaksehir – Kylian Mbappe twice assisting loanee Moise Kean's double strike in the second half.

On the domestic front PSG have maintained their premier position in the French Ligue 1, coming out of an emphatic 0-3 away win over Nantes.

Nagelsmann has a host of injury problems and will be without left-back Marcel Halstenberg suffering from muscle problems. Fabrice Hartmann, Konrad Laimer  Lucas Klostermann are all out of Wednesday night's clash owing to various foot injuries.

Tuchel's finess issues are even more serious with several players like Mauro Icardi (knee), Neymar and Julian Draxler (pulled hamstrings), Marco Verratti (bicep),  Juan Bernat (cruciate ligament rupture) and Alexandre Letellier (coronavirus) all unavailable. With even Angel Di Maria looking doubtful and Neymar absent, Pablo Sarabia may join Mbappe and Kean to form the frontal three.

RB Leipzig's probable starting XI in a 3-5-2 formation:

Peter Gulacsi (goal), Ibrahima Konate, Dayot Upamecano, Marcel Halstenberg, Benjamin Henrichs, Kevin Kampl, Dani Olmo, Christopher Nkunku, Angelino, Yussuf Poulsen, Emil Forsberg

Paris Saint-Germain's probable starting XI in a 4-3-3 formation:

Keylor Navas (goal), Alessandro Florenzi, Abdou Diallo, Presnel Kimpembe, Layvin Kurzawa, Marquinhos, Ander Herrera, Danilo Pereira, Angel Di Maria, Moise Kean, Kylian Mbappe

RB Leipzig V Paris Saint-Germain Verdict

The two sides met as recently as August in the semi final of the 2019-20 Champions' League with PSG comfortably winning 3-0.

But with so many of their key players absent for the Leipzig game, the match could get more competitive and a 2-2 or 1-1 draw could well be on the cards.

Nevertheless, with someone as potent as Mbappe still around, PSG are still the bookmakers' favorites.
