In Zinedine Zidane's quest to bring more aggression to the Real Madrid forward ranks, the 46-year old French legend is exploring the possibility of a swap-deal that could create ripples at Anfield, England. Zidane could be contemplating signing Sadio Mane. The 27-year old Senegalese with his pace and goal-scoring abilities would be a perfect blend with another major acquisition in the forward ranks, viz, Eden Hazard.
Mane was the Premier League Golden Boot winner with 22 goals along with club-mate Mohammed Salah and his advent to Bernabeu could genuinely benefit Real Madrid's attacking style of play.
In a deal which Zidane feels Liverpool couldn't refuse, he will hand over the Merseyside club 50 million euros in cash plus winger Marco Asensio in exchange for Sadio Mane. But Jurgen Klopp is known to drive a hard bargain and especially with the Salah-Firminio-Mane combine bringing him such success in the past couple of seasons, the Liverpool management are not likely to be swayed by the Zidane swap-deal. In fact, with Liverpool going through such good times, Mane may himself want to stay put.
Los Blancos have already signed Luka Jovic from Bundesliga side Eintracht Frankfurt for an initial fee of €65 million outdoing bitter rivals Barcelona in an intense bidding war for the talented 21-year old Serbian forward. Jovic is expected to complement well with Karim Benzema upfront in a striker's role. Jovic was heavily into goals in the recently concluded Bundesliga season where he managed 17 from just 27 outings. Moreover, it was his endeavors that helped Eintracht to reach the final four of the Europa League where they were unlucky to lose to Chelsea.
The arrival of Ferland Mendy, the left-back from Lyon, should give Los Blancos an attacking combo in the defense when coupled with the goal-minded and aggressive Marcelo. But, the sole major change Zidane is mooting is that of Isco in a mid-field line-up that has the likes of Toni Kroos, Luka Modric, Casemiro in it. The arrival of Eden Hazard could well spell curtains for the 27-year old attacking mid-fielder who has spent six seasons with Real Madrid. Zidane made it explicitly clear to Isco that he would be displaced post Hazard's arrival. Reports suggest that club captain and veteran defender Sergio Ramos tried to reason it out with Zidane but to no avail. Even club president Florention Perez seems okay with Isco's departure and could offload him for less than the mid-fielder's €70 million valuation.
All in all, Zidane wants to put together a more direct and faster team and it is quite clear he will do anything to achieve that.
The only question mark could revolve around Asensio, though. The 23-year old Mallorcan-born has had a below-par season, managing just 6 goals from his 44 outings in 2018-19. But considering that he is 4 years younger to Mane, has a long future ahead of him and enormously talented, Liverpool's Jurgen Klopp may just be tempted to swap him for his ace Senegalese forward.
