SC Freiburg vs Borussia Monchengladbach Preview
SC Freiburg are yet to scent victory after their return from the break in March.
Christian Streich's men have gone through their previous 4 games with 2 losses and 2 draws, the last one being a 0-1 loss to Bayer Leverkusen.
The southern German side who are lucky to be on the 8th spot, will now host Borussia Monchengladbach at the Schwarzwald stadium on Friday, June 5th.
Monchengladbach go in the Friday evening's clash the much more confident side having proceeded through 4 post-break outings with 2 wins, a draw and a loss.
Coach Marco Rose's men rounded off the weekend with a thumping 4-1win over a hapless Union Berlin.
Freiburg have been essentially dependent on 32-year old striker, Nil Peterson, to get them goals. With a tally of 9 goals, Peterson is by far the team's highest scorer this season.
On the other hand, Marcus Thurman's double-strike against Union Berlin on Sunday took his tally of Bundesliga goals to 10, equalling that of fellow forward Alassane Plea.
The Thurman-Plea combine will be one to watch out for in the Schwarzwald stadium clash and given Freiburg's leaky defence, it won't come as a surprise if the duo were to feature on the scoresheet.
Streich's men haven't been very comfortable playing at home having lost more matches (6) at the Schwarzwald than in away games (5).
But they have conceded less goals at home (16) then on the road (25) which is some consolation going into the June 5th clash.
Gladbach haven't been very convincing on the road where their W/D/L ratio reads 7/3/4 compared to a very impressive 10W/2D/3W at home.
The Foals have lost to struggling sides like Union Berlin, Schalke04 and Hertha BSC in away fixtures, something that will make them a bit wary when they visit Freiburg.
Of the 8 times, Monchengladbach and Freiburg have met, the former have won 4 and lost 3 while the solitary game went for a draw.
Frieburg have interestingly won all their previous 3 fixtures at home against their forthcoming opponents.
The eight encounters between the two have seen 25 goals with an average of 3.1 goals per game. The last fixture was a 4-2 home win for Monchengladbach in December 19.
Given the visitor's consistent performance in the current season and their ability to hang on inside the top 4, the odds are very much on them to take three points from Friday's game.
But there could be an overhang of their poor record at Freiburg in recent years.
