Tottenham Hotspur v Liverpool Preview

Champions Liverpool are in unfamiliar territory as they go through five Premier League games without a win and scoreless in four successive matches.

Placed seven points adrift of leaders Manchester City and four behind 3rd placed Leicester City, Jurgen Klopp's men may be in danger of falling out of the Top Four when they visit North London for a tough encounter with Tottenham Hotspur.

Their latest league game turned out to be a real shocker of the season, as Sean Dyche’s struggling Burnley side posted a 1-0 win that ended the title-holders' 68-year unbeaten run at home in Anfield. Jose Mourinho's Spurs have fared better of late, producing a mixed bag of results – winning two and drawing two from their last four outings.

Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool Recent Form

Tottenham Premier League form guide: L/D/W/D/W

Liverpool Premier League form guide: D/D/L/D/L

As for Spurs' team news, Hugo Lloris will replace Joe Hart between the posts, while Serge Aurier recovered from illness in time to make the bench in the FA Cup win over Wycombe Wanderers and should come in place of Japhet Tanganga with Matt Doherty still an injury doubt.

Gareth Bale may push for a start after his goal in the FA Cup clash but Mourinho would in all likelihood go for Steven Bergwijn. Harry Kane and Son Heung-min who were both introduced off the bench in the FA Cup, have combined for 13 of Tottenham's 33 league goals this season and will look to add to their haul against an unsure Liverpool defence.

For Liverpool, Virgil Van Dijk and Joe Gomez are still a long way from return and Klopp will once again have to make do with a centre-back pairing of Fabinho and either Joel Matip, Rhys Williams or captain Jordan Henderson.

Tottenham predicted line-up: Lloris (goal); Aurier, Dier, Rodon, Reguilon; Ndombele, Sissoko, Hojberg; Bergwijn, Kane, Son.

Liverpool predicted line-up: Alisson (goal); Alexander-Arnold, Fabinho, Matip, Robertson; Wijnaldum, Thiago, Henderson; Salah, Firmino, Mane.

Tottenham Hotspur v Liverpool Verdict

Mourinho has lost his last three league meetings with Liverpool, the last being a 1-2 loss at Anfield in December. But Liverpool being in the ravaged state they are in right now, do not look the favourites at all for Thursday night's clash at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium although UK bookmakers‘ odds surprisingly seem to suggest otherwise.
