Jose Mourinho will face his most acid test when Tottenham get ready to host champions Manchester City on Sunday, February 1st.

For Spurs fans it's been the worrying sight of their prime striker Harry Kane limping off the pitch against Southampton on Saturday that's bothering them.

Without Kane, the Spurs attack is looking disjointed with the onus of creating opportunities lying on the shoulders of Dele Alli, Heung-min Son and Lucas Moura.

The huge talent shown by the 23-year old mid-fielder Argentine Giovani Lo Celso comes as an added bonus while the recent advent of the young English defender Japhet Tanganga has also been a revelation of sorts.

City could be without Joao Cancelo after the Portuguese defender picked up a knock on his ankle in the FA Cup win over Fulham.

The return of defender Aymeric Laporte is a boost to the defense that hasn't been exactly organized without the Frenchman's presence for the past many months.

Guardiola may prefer not to rush Laporte into action after such a long lapse but he could be fit to face Tottenham.

City have no issues with its attack as is evident from the 13 goals banged in from their last 5 Premier League games four of which have been won.

With their veteran striker and their all-time top scorer Sergio Aguero in peak form (scoring 6 in his last 3 games) and the likes of Kevin De Bruyne, Bernardo Silva and Raheem Sterling all possessing the ability to score at any given time, the Spurs defense can be expected to have their hands full.

Tottenham's tenure under Mourinho since the time he took over reins from Mauricio Pochettino in November hasn't been anything to write home about.

Of the 12 Premier League outings under him, the Portuguese coach has overseen 5 wins and 4 losses.

Form-wise, the North London club are struggling, managing to eke out a 2-1 win against bottom-placed Norwich City in a home game after a string of winless outings.

Post the City game, the Lilywhites are in danger of falling out of the Top eight what with 7th and 8th placed Wolves and Sheffield United below them on equal points.

History hugely favours the visitors with City winning five of the last six encounters between these two since 2017 and the remaining match being a draw.

Another thing going for Pep Guardiola's side is that they will remain in the 2nd place of the EPL table irrespective of Sunday's outcome.

So, it will be a City side playing without much pressure – which makes them extra dangerous.

Man City have looked equally comfortable in home and away matches, winning 8 games apiece.

Keeping all this in perspective, the final score could very much look like a 1-2 or 1-3 in favour of the champions.
