English Premier League match preview – West Ham United vs. Manchester United – London stadium – Saturday,5 December, 2020 – 17:30 BST

West Ham vs Manchester United Preview

Premier League fans will return for the first time after March as the London stadium that will see 2,000 supporters converge at the venue to witness the Premier league clash between West Ham United and Manchester United on Saturday, December 5th. United are currently four places away from their Saturday rivals but only a point separates them on the Premier league table.

David Moyes' Hammers have been the most improved side post the lockdown, winning 5 out of their last 10 EPL outings and moving to the 5th spot.

While West Ham have come out of a 2-1 home win over Aston Villa previous weekend, United's last EPL fixture was a rousing one when they came from 0-2 behind to win 2-3 against a difficult Southampton side away at St.Mary's stadium.

Hence the Red Devils are not likely to panic if West Ham go into a lead on Saturday, despite failing to overturn another deficit in a 3-1 home defeat to Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday night.

United fans will hope for Marcus Rashford's return after the English international was forced off against PSG with a nagging shoulder injury.

Defender Luke Shaw could be an absentee from Saturday's clash but otherwise Ole Solsjaer has no major injury issues as such with David de Gea, Eric Bailly, Alex Telles, Scott McTominay, Paul Pogba, Donny van de Beek, Jesse Lingard and Anthony Martial, all overcoming minor fitness issues to feature in the London stadium outing.

With Rashford unlikely to start, United's go-to person will be Bruno Fernandes, the Portuguese playmaker having now scored in each of his last five league away games.

Cavani is another obvious choice to start in the attack after his twin inspirational second-half strikes against Southampton – the Uruguayan is averaging a goal or assist every 32 minutes in the Premier League this season.

David Moyes has a fully-fit squad to choose from, the only doubt being Andriy Yarmolenko who tested positive last month. Michail Antonio who returned in the Aston Villa win did not appear fully fit and only lasted till the first half, hence Moyes will have to decide whether to stick with him or bring in Sebastien Haller to his starting XI.

West Ham United probable starting XI:

Fabianski (goal); Balbuena, Ogbonna, Cresswell; Coufal, Rice, Soucek, Masuaku; Bowen, Antonio/Haller, Fornals

Manchester United probable starting XI:

De Gea (goal); Wan-Bissaka, Lindelof, Maguire, Telles; McTominay, Fred; Greenwood, Fernandes, Martial; Cavani

West Ham vs Manchester United Verdict

Contrary to their failing form at Old Trafford, the Red Devils have been exceptional on the road and have clocked 8 away successive wins in the Premier League.

Although the Hammers have a good recent history against United, winning one and drawing the other in the their 2 last fixtures, they may find the attacking combine of Mason Greenwood, Fernandes, Cavani and Martial a bit too hot to handle.

So, it looks like three points for the visiting Red Devils at the London stadium on Saturday.
