Brazil Grand Prix Preview And Prediction Updated for May 2025

Updated: 23rd May 2025
The 2012 Formula 1 season has been so entertaining that the title race was always going to go down to the final Grand Prix of the year. As we head to Brazil this weekend, both Sebastian Vettel and Fernando Alonso are in with a shout of becoming the 2012 World Champion.
Vettel had hoped to tie things up last weekend, but Lewis Hamilton denied the German with a stunning victory in America. The Red Bull man was runner-up to Hamilton, with Alonso hanging onto his title hopes in third.
The beauty of the situation is that it isn't simply a shoot out between these two. They are the only ones able to win the title, but several drivers are trying to win the race and they won't be in the mood to play into the hands of Vettel or Alonso.
Hamilton will definitely be aiming to end his McLaren career on a high. He considers last weekend's win as one of his best ever, but to finish the season with back-to-back wins would be a fantastic way for him to make the transition to Mercedes.

[/su_panel]Lots of other drivers who haven't had it their own way this year will be aiming to go out on a high. Vettel, Alonso and Hamilton are definitely the front runners, but Jenson Button and Kimi Raikkonen will be gunning for a podium finish at the very least.
For Mark Webber of Red Bull and Felipe Massa of Ferrari, whether they like it or not, it is going to be all about their team-mate this weekend. They will look to run a good race, but as far as the team are concerned, Vettel and Alonso will take the attention.
In last year's Brazilian Grand Prix, it was Webber that secured the win. It was his second in three years and Red Bull's third in a row. More of the same this weekend and Vettel will be celebrating on Sunday afternoon. For the record, Alonso has never won in Brazil.
Looking at the situation in terms of the race for the title, if Alonso wins, he needs Vettel to finish 4th or lower. If he comes 2nd, Vettel needs to finish outside the top seven, while if Alonso is third on the podium, he requires Vettel to be outside the top nine.
Overall, Vettel is the favourite, but it won't be easy. There is time for a few more twist and turns as yet.
