France v Scotland Preview
Scotland will be keen to get their championship back on track. Following an impressive complete performance against England the previous week, they headed to Cardiff to take on Wales. They lost Zander Fagerson to a red card giving Wales the numerical advantage for a large chunk of the match. In reality though, Wales grew as the game progressed and were probably the better team and deserved the win.
A win in Paris will help Scotland put the loss to Wales to bed. After their performance against England they will have fancied their chances of winning the 2021 Six Nations Championship. That has gone now but they could still win the competition if the remaining results go their way and they can pile on the points against Italy.
Against France, kicking the points will be crucial. Both teams counter attack effectively and also have solid defences. Scotland’s back row was dominant against the English and they will have to do the same against the French. They have the unconventional Finn Russell at fly half. He is the key to making the Scottish attack flourish. He is willing to try things that more conservative number 10’s won’t. It doesn’t always work, but when it does it’s incredible to watch.
More important than the free flowing rugby, Russell will need his kicking boots on because this is going to be a close game and every point will count. France has a water tight defence, so tries will be hard to come by.
After 2 rounds the French are still my favourites to win the 6 Nations Championship. They gave a disjointed performance against Ireland in round 2 and got the win by just 2 points. At times it looked like a training run for France. The Irish didn’t appear to trouble them at any point, and they gave the impression that they could move up a couple of gears if needed. It almost returned to the lackadaisical style of the losing French sides of old.
They have match winners across the board. Even without Antoine DuPont who is out, they can beat any team in the world.
France v Scotland Rugby Prediction
As I mentioned earlier, I believe this is going to be a close game. Both teams are able to cut loose and score some exciting tries. But with their defences in such good shape, try after try is unlikely. It may come down to the team with the best discipline and a precise kicker.
