Andy Reid Sacked New Eagles Era Begins Updated for January 2026

Updated: 16th January 2026
The Philadelphia Eagles will start their 2013 NFL campaign without a familiar face after head coach, Andy Reid, was fired, following a disappointing season in the NFL.
Just one day after completing a disastrous 4-12 season with a 42-7 defeat to the New York Giants, Philadelphia owner, Jeffrey Lurie, confirmed the widely-expected departure of one of the Eagles' most dedicated servants.
Indeed, many NFL betting news websites had already suggested that the team needed a new direction before Lurie axed his head coach on New Years Eve, for the Eagles have been a weakened force in the NFL for a number of seasons.
It has been eight years since their last Superbowl appearance, where they were narrowly defeated 24-21 by a superb Patriots side. Since then, Reid has failed to make the playoffs four times and lost two wildcard games.
Philadelphia have been desperately inconsistent in these 14 years and although the team won 140 games over his tenure – making Reid the most successful head coach in Eagles history – recent seasons have not gone well.
After finishing second with an 8-8 record last year, the team was expected to kick on and they were 3-1 by week four of 2012. Yet eight defeats in a row effectively sealed Reid's fate as he desperately tried to eradicate the team's defensive ineptitudes to no avail.
Looking back, Reid will be remembered as a great Eagles coach that sadly ran out of gas. Philadelphia fans betting NFL can look forward to a new era without their leader and will expect to better their 4-12 record in 2013.
