One event that everyone always looks forward to in the Olympic Games is the men's 100 metres. Although the final is not likely to last more than ten seconds, it is one of the most watched events.

The difference between success and failure is so slim in the 100m, if your start is not quite right then there is no time to make up for it.

It is the discipline and concentration of these athletes that makes this event such an exciting watch.

There is only one man to start off talking about when it comes to sprinting at the moment – Usain Bolt.

The fastest man in the world could have something special planned for London 2012 and is sure to look to smash the record books yet again.

It has not been a great year of so for Bolt though, he was of course disqualified in the World Championships last year after false starting in the final.

He has also been beaten a few times by fellow Jamaican Yohan Blake, who was ran the fastest time in the world this year.

Bolt will of course still be the man to beat but Blake can cause him some real problems.

One thing about the current world record holder is that he is one of few sprinters that can get away with a poor start and he relies on the final 50 metres to win the race.

Should he get a good start, he could be untouchable. It will certainly be a fascinating g battle between these two men who train together and are good friends off the track.

Don't forget the American's either. Justin Gatlin has a big point to prove after missing the games in 2008 due to a doping ban. Gatlin was the 2004 Olympic champion so knows what it takes to win the gold.

The American has ran the third fastest time in the world this year. His fellow countryman Tyson Gay is never one to be taken lightly and he can certainly compete with the best.

Gay impressed during the American trials and although he has not set the world alight so far he could still have a big say in this event.

With the huge array of talent on show and the possibility of the world record being broken yet again, this is a must see event this summer.
